I think YUI needs to concentrate more on her music and less on image/commercialism.

  • Jan-Rarufu

omg! it’s first time to see YUI with eyeliner ! i love it!

    @Mike:

Concentrate more on her music??? LOL Give her a break.

As if she didn’t just release a new album, having a nationwide tour and composing a new song for n-con contest xD

  • summersong

YUI’s a one-man band. She works with music everyday and she reharsing for her new nationwide tour. Kikino’s got a point. Give her a break. Her image didn’t get her famous. Her music did. :)

  • Mike

Releasing a new album =/= making good music. She shouldn’t compose songs for contests or TV shows. The last few have not been great. She should compose songs from her own life. They are what made her great.

  • Mike

That’s why she needs to keep working on her music, and less on her image.

  • cyclo

Well then, don’t you think she needs to get a life before she can write songs about her life?

In the debut era she wrote about her pre-debut days and her struggle.
During I Loved Yesterday she wrote about her new experiences as a musician.
During Holidays In The Sun she wrote about her hiatus.

Now, don’t you think she needs to go search for new experiences to write new and better songs? :P

Unless, you want her to write songs about writing songs, since her life would revolve around writing songs =.=

If you really think her songs are not good, maybe you could spend your time somewhere else and be happy.

I personally think she just keep getting better and better in every aspect. She is happy trying new things. Maybe some things will not result as you expected, but that’s the fun part of taking new challenges.

If she repeated the same formula over and over… THAT would be sad.

Also.. don’t you remember how many magazines featured YUI in the past? It was at least twice the amount we have nowadays. But her music was not bad at all right?
Even more. almost all of her singles were made for Movies, TV series, anime… But she always include her own experiences on them.
I really don’t need to keep talking. Let’s just wait for YUI’s next song and you’ll see for yourself.

  • Vinsu

omg…IS THAT YUI?! i almost didn’t recognize her!

  • Aydeniz

Is that really Yui? No way!
This image am sorry guys but i don’t like it.
This isn’t sweet, nice, angel & love.
    But we will see.

  • Aydeniz

    I trust Yui,

  • arnoldonicolas

I don’t know you guys, but i love the way YUI looks on this pics XD.

  • Jack, the Fish

    hahaha
    Take easy guys.
If she wanna try a lot of things and new visual, I don’t give a damn, actually I’d do the same if I could.
She is very pretty on this pics, but I really hate this shirt.

We all hope YUI keeps her style on her musics and doesn’t exchange her heart for her fame.
The future will give us the answer.
    hahahuhuhuhihehihi

    Love&Peace&a litlle war.

  • Alana

I completely agree with you, Mike. Lately YUI’s music lacks any soul… it’s just plain boring, bad music in my opinion. Her earlier work was some of the best music I’ve heard. She’s too focused on listening to what sony tells her to do nowadays. >.>

But anyways, regarding the image — she looks gorgeous. Always wondered what YUI would look like with eyeliner. XD

  • gotchi

Yea! I think she looks great with eyeliner too! It’s nice to see different styles on YUI…I think as a YUI fan, we all know that this isn’t really her style and it’s just for the fashion magazine photoshoot but honestly it comes down to the music…and I love her music…(there are a few songs that aren’t my favorite but I still enjoy listening to them)

and so I’m gonna have to disagree with YUI’s music lacking soul…sorry. I guess we need to define what you mean by “soul” too, how would you define her music’s soul anyway? I’m not gonna use soul but…for me, YUI’s music is great because of how well she’s able portray the emotions/ideas/imagery in a song. Whether its through her singing, using different instruments, in her lyrics, etc, I think a lot of YUI’s work has shown her ability to express other’s ideas but also in her own ways through her B-side tracks.

I know a lot of people prefer her earlier work like FMTY/CBML but I think her talents and song-writing skills are still apparent in her work today. I love HOLIDAYS IN THE SUN..she wanted to do a summer album and I think she did a successful job with it! I also love HOW CRAZY YOUR LOVE and how she’s trying new things (little hints of jazz, different instruments, etc.). I appreciate how the tracks flow into each other and I love how it ends with Green a.live. It’s reminiscent of her some of her early work to me…. I reallly enjoy her music and how she’s exploring different elements

I know people don’t like the idea of too much “image/commercialism” tied in with their favorite artist but I think YUI’s far from being like a sell-out…i mean i know Sony perhaps the big machine behind some of the work she’s assigned but she is known as a singer-songwriter and is requested by people to write songs for them which I think is great exposure to people who don’t know YUI. At the same time, the different themes from the anime to dramas/film gives her new styles to explore too which I think is important for her own personal growth/exploration.

  • the_chap

I’m pretty sure YUI’s not gonna become Lady Gaga, with her ever changing styles and eccentric behaviours.

To be honest, not many of her songs sell if they’re not linked to a TV show of some kind. Look at Tokyo. That song is by far her best song ever, but it didn’t get enough hits for her. This might be due partly to her career being at a very early stage, still doesn’t change the fact that it didn’t sell particularly well.

With that said, the point of having her songs linked to TV shows or Ads of some kind is to provide coverage. And it saves Sony a big bunch of money on marketing. They will market the TV show and attach her music to the ad. This generates awareness at a fraction of the cost with the possibly of generating new listeners through fans of the TV shows.

All in all, your opinions are respected, just a tad bit of an over-reaction.

  • Mralt

change is inevitable and i think, she’s enjoying it. just look at that smile XD

as long as there is music, she will create her own.
    dont worry mates XD
she will never get tired of making music.

  • Aydeniz

yaa, the reasen is we all don’t want that Yui must never enter the bad music world with bad clothes i think. Because we love YUI!!!!

  • Pavel Vinocurov

Hello! You know, charming voice Yui listens not only Europe and America, but also Siberia in Russia. I from republic Sakha Yakutia (Look in Wikipedia). I am enamoured of voice Yui. Yui – the magnificent person, listening to its music, I feel that condition which she wanted to transfer to the listener. I am assured that the singing it will bring the world and love in the hearts of the fans. Each time when I include music when voice Yui starts to flow… I feel happier! I write it in hope that Yui will see my message, and it will be glad. I want to present to it a smile from far Yakutia. And the gratitude, gratitude that you for us do… Remain such what you are Yui. Be happy!

  • Lizzfizz

Oh!, Yui looks great in here! .. I want to see more of her photos from the Nylon Magazine xD

  • simplificated

    easy guys …
just see the title, its just a challenge to try a new style …
and FYI, its a fashion magz …

    and about her music …
YUI have mention in several magz and interviews that she wants to try new thing, new music, and new instruments in this album (How Crazy Your Love). So basically her works after Rain is some adventures in music creativity. She tries ska and trumpets, tries to write more various themes, tries to add jazz elements, classic rock riff, and even tries to modify her vocal styling is some soft song.

in 1-2 days the Album is out, and everyone will hear Nobody knows, Separation, and Get Back Home…. Listen to them and back here again, tell me about her lack of soul …

For me, her latest songs still have her ever-searching self, her honesty, and her love for music. Just listen to her mp3, PV’s can blurred your judgements.

  • Mralt

    get back home!

    so relaxing XD

  • Browny Cat

I disappointed with her new style here
it’s not like YUI, not her chara at all

you know, I think the reason of why YUI can becomes hit until nowadays, besides her easy listening music absolutely, is her style.
polite cute boyish, but at the same time stylist!
its very seldom to find Japanese singer dressed like YUI, so simple outfit mathces with her simple characther make her ‘sooo something’

in this pic, i even don’ recognize her, I feel like my idol turns to ‘ordinary’ Japanese singer style,
    with hot pants and stuff

sadly…T_T, however I still support her
and let’s see what happen next…

  • Rai

    YUI化妆了!

  • reenaxans

omo.shes so kawaiiii!i dont think this type of style is her daily clothes.it is only for magazine photoshoot. i always believe that yui-san always wears polite clothes.it is not she does not concentrate on her style but i believe music is her soul.and she concentrating on music more than her style.anyway, i always and always support her music! her music is sssoooooo beautiful and good to hear. im glad i know yui-san. :)

  • poppy

i know.i also shocked when i saw the pic. but i believe in yui-san. i dont think she will go for stuff like hot pants etc. because i think she is comfortable by the polite cute boyish style more. if she want to wears sexy clothes, then she would have done it before this. just think it as a photoshoot. hehe.
